National procurement- the Blue Light Procurement Database

The fire and rescue services have adopted two e-procurement solutions since the launch of the National Procurement Strategy in August 2005. Named 'Blue Light', the procurement database, www.blpd.gov.uk, and the e-tendering solutions, www.bluelight.gov.uk, are both collaborative initiatives between the police service and fire and rescue service. The Chief Fire Officers' Association (CFOA) National Procurement Board has agreed that the solutions will be adopted nationally, and the national procurement agency, Firebuy, has agreed to fund the solutions for a one-year period. The solutions are expected to create real benefits for both fire and rescue authorities and suppliers in assisting with the modernisation agenda of improving procurement processes, and provides a central hub for fire and rescue staff and suppliers.
