Fire and rescue services continue to face operational and financial pressures, but far too often they are still working with cumbersome and inflexible legacy systems or practices that lack defined processes. Despite recognising these frustrations, many fire services remain stuck in old habits and fail to realise what new technology can do for the wider organisation. To address this, fire and rescue services need to change their approach to information and communication technology strategies to ensure that they are deployed effectively in support of changes in workflow processes in the organisation, and also to help break down the information silos that can lock up data in one department instead of sharing it across the service.
