A massive fire at a recycling yard in Greater Manchester (GMFRS) has cost the fire and rescue service more than £500,000 to extinguish, and crews are still at the scene. The blaze started at about 9pm on 20 August at the Bredbury Recycling Centre on Stockport Road West in Bredbury. A huge amount of rubbish caught fire and 50 firefighters were needed to attend the scene. Rubbish at the site is still smouldering and two crews remain at the site to continue to turn over one-tonne bails of waste. GMFRS estimates that it has already run up costs of more than £500,000 responding to the incident.
