The United States has deployed 100 firefighters to combat Australia'sdeadly wildfires.Among them were 21 wildland fire personnel from the Bureau of LandManagement, National Park Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Fish andWildlife Service, and Forest Service, according to the National InteragencyFire Center's December press release.Nearly 12.35 million acres of land and at least 17 lives have been lost tofires that began in August in parts of New South Wales and Queensland,which continue today. New fires began in Victoria more recently.Due to fear of worsening fire conditions, tourists were ordered to leave theeastern coastal area of the country (Greenwire, Jan. 2).
