摘要

Built between 1751 and 1752 near Pershore in South Worcestershire, Croome Court is a mid 18th-century neo-Palladian mansion surrounded by extensive landscaped parkland. Croome Court and Hagley Hall (built 1754 to 1760) are considered to be the finest examples of neo-Palladian architecture in Worcestershire. The mansion and park were designed by Lancelot'Capability' Brown - his first masterpiece - with some of the mansion's internal rooms designed by Robert Adam (his long gallery, installed between 1761 and 1766, is the best preserved of the original interior). Brown was brought to Croome in 1752 by the 6th Earl of Coventry, who had just inherited it together with its deer parks and 15,000 acres. Inspired by the new classicism, they set about transforming the house and its Dutch-style parterre garden into an undulating rural idyll rolling away to the distant Malvern Hills. Among the Court's notable neo-Palladian features are the plain exterior and the corner towers with pyramidal roofs (a feature first used by lnigo Jones in the design of Wilton House in Wiltshire).
