A drinks Express owner has been prosecuted for two offences after fire officers seized fireworks following an inspection last October. Following the visit of the officers from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, it was found Muhammad Tagir Mehmoud did not have a current licence or registration to store or sell the fireworks at his Drinks Express shop in Newcastle. A fireworks registration allows shops to store up to 250kg of net explosive contained in the fireworks and to sell them at certain times of the year; a fireworks licence allows shopkeepers to keep up to 2000kg. Retailers are required to obtain a separate licence should they wish to sell fireworks all year round.
