Following the Conservative Party gaining a majority in the general election, the Prime Minister is in the process of carrying out a cabinet reshuffle. Prior the election, Penny Mordaunt was the fire minister but she has now been moved to become the first-ever female to be appointed minister for the armed forces. The decision does not come as much of a surprise, as Ms Mordaunt comes from a military family and is a Royal Naval Reservist, serving as a sub-lieutenant.
