A COURT in Preston fined Aheed Sultan, the former owner of the Plaza Beach Hotel in Blackpool, Lancashire for a 'string of fire safety flouts' at the hotel. Mr Sultan was fined £15,000 during the sentencing, which took place on 13 May 2021. According to Blackpool Gazette, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Authority's case began after an inspection in September 201 7, when it prohibited use of the hotel for multiple breaches while it was being run as an unofficial house in multiple occupation (HMO). Mr Sultan suffers from dementia and was not fit to attend court, but admitted ten fire safety breaches, including "failing to maintain adequate general fire precautions which placed people at risk of death or serious injury in a fire', and 'failing to make arrangement for the planning, organisation [and] control of fire safety measures'.
