CSST manufacturers lay conductive layer on tubing

Investigators know corrugated stainless steel tubing (CSST) used as gas piping in many structures is susceptible to lightning damage.rnTo counteract the effect of lightning strikes, Plumbing Engineer reports in its September 2010 issue that manufacturers have incorporated electrically conductive layers over the tubing. These layers are said to dissipate energy and heat and help prevent the arced-through holes that lead to dangerous gas leaks and fires.
