One is almost inclined to say that 2007 was the year when the second-hand sale and purchase market declared its independence from tanker freight markets. In tanker freight markets 2007 was the third year in a row of a downward rate cycle, and one would be inclined to think that this fact would perhaps have a negative effect on second-hand tanker values, but this proved to not be the case. In a falling cycle one would also be inclined to think that there would be more sellers than buyers, but if the transaction volumes seen in 2007 are any indication, there was still a keen interest in the acquisition of second-hand tankers.
