EC refers UK government to European Court of Justice

The European Commission has decided "to refer the United Kingdom to the European Court of Justice over its application of European Union law relating to excise duties on tobacco and alcohol." The EC made its announcement only a month after Hoverspeed confirmed that it was suing Her Majesty's Customs & Excise for damages of ￡50 million to compensate it for loss of revenue and goodwill resulting from "over zealous" actions by customs officers.
