Congestion in the US intermodal sector has grown to critical proportions that threaten to choke off commerce and government officials seem to have finally heeded pleas for help from maritime industry executives. Secretary of transportation Norman Mineta addressed the National Retail Federation (NRF) in Washington last week and unveiled a new six-point strategy to reduce congestion on US roads. "Congestion is not a fact of life." he said. "We need a new approach and we need it now."
