It was built in 1918 as a steam-powered tug in the UK and now claims a royal heritage and carries passengers on luxury cruises along the Nile in Egyptrn- still powered by its original engines.rnBut they are the only parts of Misrrn- Arabic for Egypt - that its original builders would recognise. When it was launched into the River Ribble in Preston, in northwest England, it was simply the ET7 tug, one of a series built for the British Admiralty for use in Egypt. It had an overall length of 41.185m (its plans quote its length to a sixteenth of an inch) and a beam of 7.92m. Now, it measures 63m long and 13m wide, the result of substantial rebuilding since its present owner acquired the ship in 2002 in a poor condition after years of neglect.
