The document at the centre of lifeboat safety discussions at DE 53, MSC.1/Circ.1206, states - among other things - that lifeboat manufacturers are obliged to ensure any inspections, servicing and repairs are carried out by their own representative or by someone trained and certified by the manufacturer. It also says that once any (major) work has been carried out, a manufacturer's representative or someone certified by the manufacturer should be able to supply a statement confirming that the lifeboat is still fit for purpose.
