Shipping industry sets up SOx fund

EGCSA is talking to the ferry industry body Interferry about ways of "incentivising" shipping companies to install scrubbers on their vessels. EGCSA director Don Gregory told Fairplay that the talks were purely exploratory at the moment but one of the ideas being considered was the creation of an industry-backed fund comparable to Norway's NOx Fund. The latter, which was set up via agreement between the Norwegian government and a number of industry bodies, channels a tax on participating companies to generate funds to finance NOx reduction measures.
