Hellenic owners grasp opportunity in S&P market

The general tone of the sale and purchase market remains buoyant, in defiance of the prevailing fundamentals for bulk carriers. A long broking report recently listed no fewer than 19 second-hand tankers and eight bulk carriers changing hands. Probably the only reason more bulk carriers are not being sold is that Greek shipowners, in particular, have a seemingly insatiable appetite for modern ships, with the focus on Handysize and Supramax bulkers in the case of smaller private companies and high-spec MR-types for the listed and equity-financed players, most notably Navios Acquisition in recent weeks.
