Biggest con-ro yet also offers design advances

Deepsea ro-ro pioneer Atlantic Container Line (ACL) is ushering in a major technological advance with a new vessel class for North Atlantic routes. Due to be phased into service in December, Atlantic Star will be the world's largest container/ro-ro ship (con-ro) and is further distinguished by a cargo-carrying configuration that differs significantly from all other long-haul con-ros built to date. Atlantic Star is the first of five fourth-generation (G4) sisters contracted from China's Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding to replace ACL's 30-year-old con-ros sailing weekly from North America's eastern seaboard to northern Europe.
