Springmakers were comfortable with Spring Designer, the DOS version of the Spring Manufacturers Institute's (SMI) spring design software. They got used to its major perks and got over its minor drawbacks. Then, in the interest of compatibility with modem technology, along came a horse of a different color - a Windows version, called "Graphical Spring Design Software version 5 (GSDS5)." GSDS5 has benefits of its own. Nonetheless, although happy to see the Windows interface, some users still missed the virtues of DOS Spring Designer. However, springmakers were daring enough to make the switch from DOS to Windows, and they have dealt with the advantages and disadvantages of both.
