Canada plans to increase its container handling capacity as Montreal develops the last of its available land. The Port of Montreal has several projects under way to bring the port's container handling capacity to more than 2 million teu by 2018, with further expansion planned over the next 10 years, bringing capacity to more than 3 million teu. Present capacity is approximately 1.7 million teu. "The Port of Montreal's container handling expansion will accommodate the expected growth in container traffic in the coming years," according to Melanie Nadeau, director of communications at Montreal Port Authority (MPA), in an interview with IHSFairplay.
