摘要

Long on the drawing board, what is claimed to be the world's largest vessel - Allseas' planned construction/decommissioning/ pipelay vessel Pieter Schelte - is moving closer to reality. Negotiations with yards in the Far East are ongoing and a number of important contracts have been placed for key items of equipment such as engines, DP technology and the high-tensile steel for the jacket and topsides lift system. At some 382m long, with a breadth of 117m, Allseas' newbuild is, the company claims, on schedule for delivery in 2012, even though, at the time of writing, the company had yet to place an order for its construction.
