Gas cylinders come in many shapes and sizes and carry a variety of useful gases, but they can pose a serious potential threat to those on board if they are not handled and stored correctlyrnIncidents involving gas bottles are unfortunately quite common on board ships and frequently result in fire or explosion and occasionally fatalities. However, the potential for accidents is much wider than when leaking gas is ignited or CO_2 escapes leave an engine room without fire protection.
