LR approves LNG-fuelled bulker

Class society Lloyd's Register has given approval in principle (AIP) for the new Clean Sky bulk carrier design incorporating an LNG-as-fuel system, it was reported in late December. The move paves the way for research into extending the technology beyond niche sectors, the class society said. LNG-as-fuel research, technology development, and newbuilding activities have focused on specific sectors such as ferries, offshore vessels, and shortsea or inland trades.
