Head over heals

The Cleveland Health Museum has provided health education and information in a museum setting since opening its doors in 1940. Now called HealthSpace Cleveland, the museum focuses on current public health issues and life science discoveries through outreach activities that encourage healthy lifestyle choices. In April 2002, the museum broke ground for a new 7,290 sq. m building that opened November 8, 2003. "Head First!" an interactive multimedia experience housed within a stylized human head, fills the new building's three-story glass atrium. The monumental head, over 9m high, greets visitors and (quite literally) "faces" pedestrian and automobile traffic on Cleveland's Euclid Avenue. The dramatic exhibit draws passersby into the museum, and the programs presented within it continue the museum's mission to deliver universally acknowledged, community-based health education.
