The mystery of human papillomaviruses in carcinogenesis

Human papillomaviruses (HPV) havenbeen implicated in the genesis of differentntypes of malignancies. HPV-associatednmalignancies include cervical [1] and othernanogenital cancers [2], skin cancer [3], oralncancer [4], as well as a subpopulation ofnhead and neck cancers [5]. The mystery ofnthis virus is based on its ability to use itsnoncogenes to manipulate and ultimatelyntransform normal cells.
