Mobile termination fees polarise carriers

With the passing of the deadline for the first stage of V the ACCC's recommended phased reduction mobile termination charges. Several other carriers have notified access disputes against Vodafone and Optus, both of which have submitted access undertakings at variance with the recommendation. In its final report on mobile termination charges, released in June 2004, the ACCC recommended that prices fall to 21 cents per minute immediately then to 18 cents on 1 January 2005,15 cents on 1 January 2006 and to 12 cents by 1 January 2007. The recommendation was opposed by both Optus and Vodafone. Hutchison wanted a more rapid reduction to the 12 cent figure.
