GSMA aims to make apps smarter and more private

The global GSM Association (GSMA) has produced two sets of guidelines for mobile applications developers: one to provide guidance on how app developers can avoid compromising users' privacy; and one to enable improvements in application connectivity, power consumption, network reliability and security. According the privacy guidelines, they "are intended to apply to all parties in the application or service delivery chain that are responsible for collecting and processing a user's personal information - developers, device manufacturers, platforms, and OS companies, mobile operators, advertisers and analytics companies." According to GSMA, "Key to realising these objectives is a robust and effective framework for the protection of privacy, based on the principles of transparency, choice and control."
