Optus and its parent SingTel have released their first quarter financial results. While Optus has increased its profits, its revenues are down. Ditto SingTel. That includes revenues on its mobile services, which actually fell by a larger percentage than those for the company as a whole. The Optus mobile results are in sharp contrast to Telstra's booming performance announced in its full year financial results announced last week. Optus mobile revenues declined 6% for the quarter, while Telstra's grew by 6% in the year (CommsWire, 9August 2013). The Optus financial year ends on 30 March, Telstra's on 30 June, More tellingly, Telstra put on 1.3 million new mobile customers in the last financial year.
