Ahead of the 6 June EU Energy Council that also examined the question of the sus-tainability of biofuels, the European Bio-ethanol Fuel Association (eBIO) was forced to reply internationally to what it terms the singling out of biofuels as a culprit. eBIO, together with counterparts the Canadian Renewable Fuels Association and the US Renewable Fuels Association, wrote an open letter on the occasion of the United Nations World Food Summit taking place in Rome, questioning the validity of findings in the Agricultural Outlook 2008-2017 on biofuels. eBIO considers that the report ignores more significant factors driving up the price of food worldwide. Instead of blaming biofuels, eBio argues, the international community should promote the production and use of biofuels.
