Commission approves budget for EIT kick-off

The new European Institute of Technology and Innovation (EIT) will start operating this year with the help of E∪D2.9 million from the Community budget. This financing decision was adopted by the European Commission, on 23 May, in a written procedure, on the basis of a proposal submitted by EU Education Commissioner Jan Figel. The 18-strong Governing Board should be appointed in June. According to the financial decision, "an important part of the budget" (E∪D990,000) will be used to reimburse the honoraria, meeting, accommodation and travel expenses of the EIT Governing Board and Executive Committee.
