EU-27 Livestock and Products: European Commission Approves 187 Million to Fight Animal Diseases in 2008. GAIN Report Number E47110

On November 30, 2007, the European Commission (EC) announced the approval of a financial package of 186.57 million to eradicate, control and monitor animal diseases in 2008. This compares to the 193 million budgeted for 2007. For the first time multi-annual programs lasting from two to five years have also been approved in order to ensure a more efficient and effective achievement of the objectives of those programs. This is in line with the new Animal Health Strategy for the EU (2007-2013).
