Parliament backs Commission's hydrogen plans

Following the support of the Industry Committee, in April, for establishment of a Joint Initiative (JTI) for fuel cells and hydrogen, the European Parliament expressed its backing for the European Commission's plans. In Strasbourg, the Parliament debated the hydrogen JTI in plenary, on 19 May, and voted on 20 May. MEPs gave a resounding majority, with 599 votes in favour and 13 against, to the consultative report by Pia Elda Locatelli (PES, Italy) on the Commis- sion proposal tor a Council regulation setting up the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking. The Commission and Council are proposing funding, under the Seventh Research Framework Programme, of €470 million.
