MEPs back independent European reaction force

The forest fires that devastated Southern Europe again this summer (315,000 hectares destroyed) prompted members of the European Parliament to call for the creation of an independent and permanent Eusropean reaction force to assist the member states and affected regions during fires and other disasters.rnThe request is formulated in a resolution adopted in plenary, on 16 September in Strasbourg, by a very wide majority (647 to 31, with 22 abstentions). This is not Parliament's first call for the creation of such a force.
