Commission sees no reason for common vaccine procurement

It would not be "reasonable or efficient" for the EU to launch a common procurement of vaccines against influenza A (HlNl), the European Commission has said, "given the stage of development of the pandemic and the advance purchase orders already concluded by several member states". Those ten or so member states that wish to jointly purchase vaccinations will nevertheless receive advice from the EU executive, which will also act as facilitator. The Commission's 'strategy paper' on swine flu, adopted on 15 September, will be on the agenda of the Union's health ministers during their Council in Luxembourg, on 12 October.
