EU demands more of its partners

With the Copenhagen climate conference just four months away (7-18 December), the European Union is pressing its partners from the industrialised world to improve their proposals and is demanding clear commitments from the developing world.rnMeeting informally in Are (Sweden) on 24 and 25 July, the EU's cnvironmcnl ministers reiterated their commihnent to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 209? They confirmed their commitment to take on a "fair" share of aid to developing countries but note that such aid will come with conditions: "no deal without money but no money without a commitment to reduce emissions. We want to know why we are paying. We have to see fair commitments in exchange," explained Andreas Carlgren, Sweden's environment minister and Council president.
