EU tuned in to maritime sector

Revitalising active forces in coastal areas and ensuring the international competitiveness of sectors related to maritime activities are the objectives announced by the European Commission at a mul-tisector conference, in Rome on 19-20 May, in celebration of European Maritime Day. More than ever before, said European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, "we must demonstrate that our integrated maritime policy is not a luxury but is a key, in both good and hard times, for creating investments, jobs and well-being by making better use of our seas".
