EP fine-tunes roaming regulation to consumers' benefit

The European Parliament's Industry Committee is looking out for consumers and implicitly future voters, who are likely to be pleased with its adoption, on 9 March in Strasbourg, of the proposal for capping the price of sending text messages from one EU state to another (roaming).rnIt introduced an important innovation, not on the price of text messages but on the price of calls (capped in the EU since mid-2007). As from the entry into force of the regulation, on I July if all goes well, roaming calls must be billed per second from the first second, state MEPs, and not from the 31st second, as the Commission proposes. By charging for roaming calls per minute, operators push up their prices by some 20%, according to the Commission.
