Spain ordered to recover illegal state aid

The non-enforcement of several debt rescheduling agreements in favour of the Spanish synthetic fibres producer, Sniace, constitutes state aid, which is incompatible with EU rules on the matter. On 10 March, the European Commission noted that the company had thus been relieved from ordinary charges that its competitors had to pay, without, however, serving a public interest purpose. It ordered Spain to recover €22.6 million, plus interest.
