Ngos Criticise Weak Commission Proposal

The European Commission's communication spelling out the positions the EU will defend at the international climate conference in Copenhagen has been welcomed by European Parliament President Hans-Gert Pottering, but criticised by environmental associations, which find its proposals on aid to developing countries far too weak. Pottering says it is imperative to conclude a multilateral agreement on the climate, adding that the EU has played its lead role with its adoption of the climate change package in December 2008. He also considers the communication "an important step towards leading our international partners to conclude an agreement".
