Commission Pulls Back, Parliament Takes Initiative

The European Parliament will take the initiative to publish a kind of action plan on urban mobility in this term - in the form of an own-initiative report - lacking the action plan promised by the European Commission. In the plenary session in Strasbourg, on 12 January, Gilles Savary (PES, France), who will be the rapporteur, announced it officially: "I have succeeded in obtaining permission from my colleagues for the European Parliament, in a completely unusual occurrence, to produce the action plan that you did not want to produce, in an own-initiative report, before the end of the electoral term". The MEP was addressing EU Health Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou, at the Parliament to replace her colleague, Transport Commissioner Antonio Tajani, who is on a trip to Japan.
