Third-party Certification 'unnecessary'

Directive 88/378/EEC on the safety of toys, which is currently under revision, is scheduled for adoption in a first-reading agreement between the European Commission, the Council and the European Parliament. Following four rounds of informal talks, the parlies came to a final agreement, on 10 December, concluding that a "third-party certification" for the safety of toys is "unnecessary". The Parliament's plenary voted on safer rules for toys during its plenary session, on 15-18 December in Strasbourg.
