ENVI committee seeks to reinforce ban on hazardous substances

MEPs from the European Parliament's Committee on Environment (ENVI) are calling for the gradual elimination of certain hazardous substances - which are not currently restricted, such as halogenated flame retardants and PVC - contained in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE). The report by Jill Evans (Greens-EFA, UK), adopted by this committee, on 2 June, by 55 votes to one (with two abstentions), concerns a proposal for a directive updating current legislation (dating back to 2003) limiting hazardous substances contained in EEE.
