Ministers discuss Innovation Union and joint programming

On 26 November, research ministers exam ined key elements they see in the European Commission's newly proposed Innovation Union strategy. They also called for greater efforts to complete the European Research Area. Another less fortunate agenda point was how to contain spiralling costs and improve management at the international ITER experimental project on nuclear fusion. The Council fired off rather detailed conclusions on the Innovation Union. Ministers first lay down the habitual key messages, such as putting research and innovation at the centre of the Europe 2020' strategy for jobs and growth. The Council further recognises the need for "urgent" action in the field of innovation.
