Sustainable energy funds worth 146 mn euro freed up after EP vote

The EU is to equip itself with a new sustainable energy fund from 1 January 2011. This follows on from the European Parliament's approval, by 582 votes to 27 with 7 abstentions, of a first reading agreement reached with the Council on amending the Regulation (663/2009) governing the European Energy Recovery Plan (EERP). The vote, on 11 November, will allow the Commission to release €146 million of unspent EU funds under the €3.98 billion EERP to finance energy saving, energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.
