Soft questions for companies

The Commission is currently consulting oil companies active in Europe on the consequences of the Gulf of Mexico disaster for the EU. Companies are quizzed rather softly on whether or not the EU should legislate. Are companies happy with present rules? Other questions ask whether they would be ready, or not, to present contingency plans for accidents and participate in good practice-sharing at EU level. Do companies think a similar accident could happen in Europe? Have they made all precautions and measures to prevent an accident? Are there company policies enabling full assumption of responsibility in the event of environmental or material damage?
