The European Parliament's Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) voted, on 27 April, against amendments aiming at allowing the use of thrombin with fibrinogen as food additives. Thrombin (a 'meat glue') is used to present pieces of meat as a single meat product. Asa Westlund's (S&D, Sweden) resolution argues that its use is misleading for consumers and presents a risk of pathogenic bacteria infection. Amendments to the annexes to EP and Council Directive 95/2/EC on food additives other than colours and sweeteners and repeal-rning Decision 2004/374/EC were therefore dropped.
