Prevention, buzzword of partnership against cancer

Via a resolution adopted on 7 April, MEPs from the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) welcomed the Commission's proposal to establish a European Partnership for Action against Cancer for the period 2009-2013. However, they added several amendments, reasserting the role of environmental factors on the occurrence of cancer, the quality of care which varies according to member states and the need to work on prevention. They also added a reference to financing, by inviting the Commission and member statesrnto ensure that studies and programmes benefit from sufficient financing.
