With the European Commission considering a gradual lifting of the ban on processed animal proteins in feed for pigs and poultry, the European Parliament has issued a call for strict conditions for any revision of EU legislation. The significant decline in cases of mad cow disease (BSE) in the EU should not lead to a reduction of surveillance, state MEPs in an opinion issued in Strasbourg, on 6 July, based on a non-legislative resolution drafted by German Socialist Dagmar Roth Behrendt.
