Free allowances: Eurofer disputes steel benchmarks

The European steel industry, represented by Eurofer, has challenged the benchmarks adopted for this sector in the framework of the regulation establishing rules for the free allocation of CO_2 emissions allowances for so-called 'sensitive' sectors (the 'benchmarking decision') and says it is prepared to take action before the EU Court of Justice. The regulation, approved on 15 December 2010 by the Climate Change Committee, is expected to be adopted in Council by the end of April.
