Reconciling aquaculture and nature protection

The protection of nature, and more specifically the European network of protected zones, Natura 2000, does not mean banning all economic activity - but it should be controlled and subject to certain rules. Therefore, on 5 December, the European Commission published new guidelines to re-clarify the rules, particularly those applicable to aqua-culture (whose development needs to be supported by the reformed Common Fisheries Policy) in Natura 2000 sites.
