Record number of patents filed with EPO in 2011

The year 2011 set a new record for the number of patent applications filed with the European Patent Office (EPO). The intergovernmental body (38 member countries) that manages the registration of European patents received 243,000 applications last year, a 3% increase over the 2010 record figure of 237,500, and granted 62,115 patents, 7% more than in 2010.
